Why this site was made
Humans are a community oriented species and as such, while there is a lot we can learn by ourselves, I've found that we can learn a lot from each others.
This website is made for parents, employers, friends, partners, family, team mates and more whom either are autistic and/or interact with those whom are on the spectrum.
The goal is to share real stories, ideas, insights and emotions in the hope that it will teach others (like yourself as you're reading this) about autism and life with it.
I do not have much of a plan for this site at this time (September 2022) other than sharing stories from our experiences and the ideas and insights we've learned and what works and what doesn't to keep us sane and happy.
A little bit about myself:
My name is Peter and I'm a neurotypical (NT) parent of my son: Nathan. Nathan is on the spectrum and has some ADHD tendencies. My wife Ari (also NT) and I live with our son in the northern Chicago subburbs. As we have no family close to us to help us in difficult times, we've had to learn to adjust to handling most things on our own.
Though we wouldn't have been able to get this far without the support of those who are around us: doctors who specialise in childrens care and autism, a school system who is helping provide good support with a structured additional plan and support to nurture Nathan in school and all the things we've learned about autism and how a lot of things are about us (as the parents and adults in these situations) to manage and handle well.
I hope that you're willing to follow along with my stories and maybe one day, share your insights as well.
We're not alone in all this, but it doesn't mean everyone around us understands things either. But there are those, like us, who have been or are going through what you are and can offer ... at a minimum, a warm shoulder and a cup of coffee or beer and swap stories over.
Be well.
